First round of the Barnsley Minors League

Dave Naughton, Junior Development Coach, reports on a great all-round performance by COSSS in the first round of the Barnsley Minors League.

A strong team of young swimmers from JO3 and Junior Development, plus a couple of old-timers from Masters squad, competed for City of Sheffield on Saturday 26th January in the 1st round of this seasons Barnsley Minors League.

The meet was held at Armthorpe Leisure Centre, a small, compact venue, where all spectators had to be tightly packed on the poolside. For many of the swimmers from JO3, this was their first competitive gala. You can imagine their nerves, anxiety, and the vast numbers of questions they asked in the build up to their first race!!

I am pleased to say that the entire team, performed excellently on the day. They were extremely competitive with a large number of PBs achieved. The older swimmers gave great support and encouragement to the youngsters and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meet.

Special mention must go to Georgina Thorpe, one of our swimmers from Junior Development Squad, who looked after the young 9 and 10 year olds from JO3, calming their nerves and ensuring they were in the right place at the right time !
