Fred Furniss

It is with huge sadness that we need to announce the passing of former COSSS Head Coach Fred Furniss. Fred was our Head Coach from 1987 - 2001 and was instrumental in establishing the programme, planting seeds that are still flourishing today.

He was the first full time coach in the city, and went on to have great success at all levels, including GB Olympians Karen Mellor (Clifton) and Alan Rapley.

All those who knew Fred will testify to his immense passion for the sport, his expertise and huge knowledge, but above all else for being a good friend, mentor and all round great person.

We would like to thank Fred for his massive contribution to the sport both in Sheffield and with Swim England. He is hugely respected by us all and will be greatly missed.

Our deepest condolences go to his family at this time. RIP Fred...God Bless you sir, you made a huge difference to so many people and you will not be forgotten. FredFurnissFredFurniss

Yet again our swimmers performed brilliantly and featured in the medals across the weekend. There were great performances with each session ending with junior and senior finals and medals awarded in age band.
